DSP Reflection

In answering these questions I was able to reflect on my writing process while writing the DSP. The answers are written in bullet form as I chose to jot down notes for each questions. I believe when I answer questions in this way I can delve deeper into my answers.

Process Reflection
What challenges did you face in completing the assignment? How did you
address/troubleshoot them? What were your successes and difficulties in completing this assignment
  • Beginning = how to write 5 pages, what would I write about, what was the best stance for me to take à went with both side and addressed counter arguments
    • **TROUBLESHOOTING à easiest way was to call my tutor, then…
  • successes à I continuously went back to the reading to make sure my facts aligned with the correct arg.
  • difficulties à analyzing the facts I used, organizing the paragraphs to make the most sense/flow

Describe the aims and strategies that led to the completion of this assignment. How
did your thinking about it evolve over time (point to specific experiences while
working on the assignment)? How did the assignment evolve (or not evolve) with
your thinking (again, point to specific experiences) about it? What went according
to plan and what turned out differently than you expected?
  • Ap English… has written an argumentative/synthesis essay before… felt more confident
  • Evolve
    • Looked at it as a whole and was nervous about how it would all connect. Then I took it step by step, paragraph by paragraph,
  • In my writing one can see how ach idea is clearly expressed in its own section while not straying from the ultimate goal.

What risks did you take in the assignment/course? Be specific.

  •        Finding points of information not in the reading à coach carter example, using own school
  •        Only agreeing with half of the authors argument à saying that eliminating sports is not a good direction

Describe your learning process throughout the completion of this assignment and what it felt like at different stages until you finished the (final, revised) essay. Discuss the skills you are still
developing in terms of your writing.

  • Read assignment, Read the article while looking for answers, read assignment, make outline with details, write each paragraph individually
  • Using more complex language and diction à not at a college level
  • My writing can sometimes be very wordy and work around the actual point I am trying to make

How does what you learned through completing this assignment connect to the
learning outcomes of this course, as well as what you hope to gain over this semester?

  • by the end, once re-reading, I find the essay to be better than what I had expected
    • very worked up, feel confused and cant stay in one train of thought.
  • feel better about myself and should not have stressed so much
  • this class will hopefully help me to decrease the amount of stress I have about writing

What still needs work? (in terms of the final essay itself or the process of writing it). How might you improve this essay? Be specific.

  •         ANXIETY ABOUT WRITING, not stressing before even starting
  •         Using more complex sentence formatting to enhance my ideas
  •         Proof reading à small errors that could have easily been fixed, sentences that could have been re-worded to sound a lot better than they currently do
